Have a question before you book?

Browse answers to what we hear most, from filter lifespan to what BOROUX removes from your water.

What does a BOROUX filter remove, and is it certified?

BOROUX Foundation™ Filters remove up to 99.97% of harmful contaminants, including lead, PFAS ("forever chemicals"), chlorine and microplastics. They also keep the beneficial minerals in your water. The Water Quality Association (WQA), an independent group, certifies them to NSF/ANSI 42 (taste, odor and chlorine), NSF/ANSI/CAN 401 (emerging contaminants like microplastics) and NSF/ANSI/CAN 372 (lead-free materials). To keep that certification, the filters and our facility are retested and inspected every year.

How long do the filters last, and what upkeep is involved?

A pair of Foundation Filters lasts up to 12 months, and a four-filter setup lasts up to 24 months. How long yours last depends on your water quality and how much you use. For best flow, scrub the filters every 3-6 months, or sooner if water starts filtering more slowly. Foundation Filters come with a one-year warranty against defects. You can also subscribe to get replacements automatically.

Does BOROUX remove fluoride?

The Foundation Filters do not remove fluoride on their own. For fluoride, add BOROUX Proactive® Fluoride Filters. They work as 1-to-1 partners, so you need one Proactive Filter for each Foundation Filter. We recommend replacing them about every 1,000 gallons, which is roughly 6-12 months. Because of state rules, we can't currently ship Proactive Filters to California or Iowa.

Why choose BOROUX?

BOROUX works by gravity alone. It needs no plumbing, no electricity and no installation, so you just set it on your counter and fill it. It keeps working during power outages and emergencies because it doesn't depend on water pressure or your home's water lines. Many under-sink reverse osmosis systems strip out healthy minerals along with contaminants. BOROUX keeps those minerals, so your water stays fresh and natural-tasting. It also costs just pennies per gallon, much less than bottled water or the ongoing filter and service costs of under-sink and RO systems. And every BOROUX stainless steel system comes with a lifetime warranty.
