In a world of plastic water filter pitchers, I tested three new-generation stainless steel filter systems. I will admit that the popularity of those giant, stainless steel, gravity-fed water filters remained a mystery to me for some years—even as multi-gallon water filtration systems from brands like British Berkefeld and Berkey seemed to proliferate equally among lovers of doomsday prepping and holistic wellness retreats.

Why We Named It Best Gravity-Fed Countertop Water Filter The Boroux Legacy takes the concept of a water cooler and gives it an upgrade. It features high-performance carbon filters nestled inside a food-grade stainless steel chamber, filtering out up to 99.97% of harmful contaminants through gravity alone. The filter consists of two chambers that stack on top of each other: an upper chamber that houses the filters and a lower chamber that stores the filtered water. There’s the option for either two or four filters, depending on household size and average water use. Two can filter up to 1 gallon of water per hour, and four can filter up to 2 gallons of water per hour.

Once it was fully up and running, the BOROUX produced deliciously crisp, clear water that had a noticeably softer quality than what came out of my tap or some of the other systems I tested. Whether that’s a pro or a con will depend on your personal preference, but I found it pleasant and easy to drink. The filters are also rated to last up to 12 months, which helps offset some of the sticker shock that comes with the replacement costs.
