Why your BOROUX is leaking and how to fix it?

What to Do If Your BOROUX System Is Leaking?

First identify the source of the leak. Is the leak originating from the seam between the two chambers or from the spigot?

If water is observed running down the exterior of the system, it may indicate that the BOROUX system has been overfilled, causing an overflow leak.

If you notice a leak from your spigot, it generally indicates that the washers or seals may not be properly positioned or the spigot has not been tightened sufficiently.

What to Do if Your BOROUX is Leaking Down the Sides

As a gravity-fed system, water flows from the upper chamber to the lower chamber. If the lower chamber is already filled and the upper chamber is also topped up, the excess water will have nowhere to go but outside the system.

Only fill the upper chamber when the lower chamber is empty.

Since it can be difficult to see the water level in the lower chamber without removing the upper chamber, you can monitor the flow rate from the spout, or use the BOROUX Water Level Spigot to accurately measure the water level. For systems where the upper chamber is too tall to easily inspect, the reflection of the lid can be used to check the water level.

It is normal for a small amount of water to remain in either chamber after filtration. We strongly advise against tipping the BOROUX system to drain the last drops, as doing so may damage the stems of the filters, rendering them ineffective.

How Often Should You Refill Your BOROUX System?

Most BOROUX users refill their systems once or twice a day. However, during periods of increased usage, such as when hosting guests or filling multiple water bottles, you may need to refill the system more frequently. BOROUX systems with additional filters can process water more quickly. The flow rate of your 3-gallon BOROUX system with two filters is approximately one gallons per hour. The flow rate with four filters is approximately two gallons per hour.

Choosing the Right BOROUX System Size

If you are choosing the appropriate BOROUX system size, select a system that you will refill 1-2 times per day. Estimate how many gallons your household consumes daily and choose a system that closely matches that amount. Avoid selecting a system that is too large, as filters need to stay saturated for optimal performance, and water may lose its freshness if it sits for too long.

What If You Overfill Your BOROUX?

If you accidentally overfill your BOROUX system and discover a puddle of water later, don't worry—it’s a common mistake. Now that you are aware of the cause, you can take steps to prevent this issue in the future and share this knowledge with other BOROUX users.

What to Do if Your Spigot Is Leaking

The washers, typically made of food-grade silicone, create a watertight seal between the spigot and the chamber. If they are misaligned or missing, water can seep through the gaps, leading to a slow leak. If the spigot is not securely tightened, the connection may loosen over time, resulting in leakage. In rare cases, the spigot itself may be damaged or cracked, which could also cause water to escape. To resolve this, it’s important to inspect the washers, ensure proper positioning, and re-tighten the spigot. If the issue persists, replacing the washers or spigot may be necessary.

If the spigot is leaking, ensure that the washers are correctly positioned and that the spigot is securely tightened.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, maintaining your BOROUX water filtration system involves regular inspections and proper usage practices. By addressing common issues such as leaks from the spigot or overfilling the chambers, you can ensure optimal performance and longevity of your system. Whether it’s adjusting the spigot or carefully monitoring water levels, these simple steps help prevent disruptions and keep your filtration system running efficiently. For additional troubleshooting advice, feel free to contact our help center.
